Velvet flower is a millennia-old traditional Chinese craft originating from the Tang Dynasty. Its Chinese name shares the same pronunciation as "prosperity and glory", embodying auspicious symbols of wealth and good fortune.
Crafted with mulberry silk for its soft velvety texture, every piece is entirely handmade without any stitching. These everlasting artificial floral ornaments were once known as "palace flowers" in ancient times. Nanjing velvet flower won the Gold Medal at the 1915 Panama-Pacific International Exposition, and was inscribed on the Jiangsu Provincial Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2007.
This artwork adopts classic velvet flower craftsmanship to vividly recreate the cute, innocent look of long-tailed tits. The lifelike design is so realistic that it is hard to tell apart from a real bird at first glance.
